Campus Hazing Transparency and Resources
Schoolcraft College is committed to preventing and stopping hazing. We want all members of our campus community to feel safe. Schoolcraft will investigate all reports of hazing allegations promptly.
Annual Security Report (ASR) and Hazing Statistics: Schoolcraft College publishes campus safety information and crime statistics, including hazing-related statistics where applicable, in the Annual Security Report (ASR).

- Campus Policy, Michigan law, and the Stop Campus Hazing Act all prohibit hazing in connection with participating in educational services, program or employment at the College.
What is Hazing?
Hazing is defined is the intentional, knowing, or reckless act by a person acting alone or acting with others that is directed against an individual and that the person knew or should have known endangers the physical health or safety of the individual, and that is done for the purpose of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, participating in, holding office in, or maintaining membership in any organization.
Hazing can include but is not limited to:
- Physical brutality, such as whipping, beating, striking, branding, electronic shocking, placing harmful substance(s) on the body, or similar activity;
- Physical activity, such as sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, or calisthenics, that subjects the other person to an unreasonable risk of harm or that adversely affects the physical health or safety of the individual.
- Activity involving consumption of food, liquid, alcoholic beverage, liquor, drug, or other substance that subjects the individual to an unreasonable risk of harm or that adversely affects the physical health or safety of the individual; and/or
- Activity that induces, causes, or requires an individual to perform a duty or task that involves the commission of a crime or an act of hazing.
Applicable Laws and Policies
Hazing may violate College policy and may also violate federal, state, or local law. In addition to Schoolcraft College policies and procedures, the following laws and resources may apply:

- Federal requirements (Stop Campus Hazing Act / Clery Act)

How Schoolcraft Investigates Hazing Reports
When Schoolcraft College receives a hazing report, the College will review and respond as promptly as possible based on the information provided and the safety needs of those involved. The process may include:
Initial review and safety assessment
The College reviews the report and determines whether immediate safety actions are needed.
Outreach and support options
When appropriate, the College may contact the reporting person and/or impacted person to share available resources and support.
Assignment for review/investigation
The report is routed to the appropriate office for follow-up and investigation (for example, Student Relations/Conduct and/or other designated College offices, depending on the situation).
- Information gathering
The College may interview involved parties and witnesses and review available documentation or other relevant information. - Findings and outcomes
Based on the information collected, the College determines whether College policy was violated. - Sanctions and corrective actions (when applicable)
If a violation is found, outcomes may include educational interventions, restrictions, conduct sanctions, organizational sanctions, and/or referral to other processes as appropriate. - Law enforcement coordination (when applicable)
Some incidents may also be addressed through criminal or civil processes. - Protection from retaliation
Retaliation for reporting or participating in an investigation is prohibited. Anyone who experiences retaliation should report it using the reporting options listed above.
Incidents involving a crime, an emergency, or an imminent threat to the health or safety of any person should be reported immediately to Campus Police at (734) 462-4424. If someone presents an immediate threat to your safety whether or not they possess a weapon, dial 911 for help.
Suspected violations may be reported by completing an SC aware concerning behavior report.

The college will continue to provide information to students via email on additional resources.
Campus Hazing Transparency Report
In compliance with federal requirements, Schoolcraft College publishes a Campus Hazing Transparency Report. When the College makes a finding of hazing involving a student organization, the report may include:
- The name of the student organization involved
- A general description of the hazing violation (including whether it involved alcohol, drugs, or physical harm)
- Whether the College found the organization responsible for hazing
- Any sanctions imposed on the organization
- Key dates, as applicable:
- Date the alleged incident occurred
- Date the investigation was initiated
- Date the finding was issued
- Date the organization was notified of the outcome
The Transparency Report will not include personally identifiable information about students.
Campus Hazing Transparency Report
If there are no findings of hazing for the reporting period, the College will publish a statement indicating there were no findings to report.
