Organization and Management
Health information professionals make decisions that demand effective planning, organization, motivation and communication skills. Effective supervision of human and other resources is also essential in today’s changing world of healthcare. This course provides the health information technology student with basic management concepts and theories that are applied in the Health Information Services/Management environment.
(A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Apply the fundamentals of team leadership.
- Participate on teams.
- Participate in an employee selection interview.
- Conduct orientation and training.
- Monitor staffing levels and productivity standards for health information functions.
- Use quality improvement tools and techniques to monitor, report and improve processes.
- Make recommendations for items to include in budgets and contracts.
- Recommend cost-saving and efficient means of achieving work processes and goals.
- Identify supplies needed for work processes.
- Examine differences between and among cultures that may provide challenges to a manager.
- Comply with local, state and federal labor regulations.
- Contribute to work plans, policies, procedures and resource requisitions in relation to job functions.
- Demonstrate ethical standards of practice.
