Michigan Community College Guarantee
Class of 2023, 2024, and Beyond: Review below for information about free or reduced tuition and fees!
The state has announced an exciting new program for graduates of Michigan high schools, starting with the Class of 2023! Called the Community College Guarantee, it will offer funding for the resident rate tuition and fees. Pell-eligible students also qualify for up to $1,000 per year for other costs, including a refund for living expenses.
There is not an application for this program outside of your FAFSA. But as we await final guidance from the state to prepare for awarding students, please see below for important information.
What You Can Do Now
- Submit your 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure Schoolcraft is listed as your first school (our school code is 002315 – you can login to make a correction to your FAFSA if we are not listed first). Be sure to check Ocelot Access and your SC email to submit any requested documents.
- Submit your final high school transcripts to Schoolcraft. The quickest and easiest way is through the Parchment website. You can also bring a copy to Admissions or email to [email protected].
What You Should Know
- You will need to enroll full time (12+ credit hours) to take advantage of this program.
- You must have been a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year and you must remain a Michigan resident to remain eligible for this program. If you are dependent on the FAFSA – this applies to your parent(s) as well.
- Special note for 2023 high school graduates: This program applies to students who graduated from a Michigan high school in 2023 or later.
- If you graduated in 2023 and received the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for 2024-25 – you will see an update to your Offer Letter soon (we do not know an exact date yet)
- If you graduated in 2023 and did not qualify for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, or did not submit your 2023-24 FAFSA – be sure to submit your 2024-25 FAFSA. The Student Aid Index requirement (which determines financial need for awards such as the Pell Grant) does not apply, so more students will qualify under this program.
- If you graduated high school in 2023 and have not yet begun enrollment in college, you still have time!If you graduated high school April – August 2023: you must enroll full time in Fall 2024
- If you graduated high school September – December 2023: you must enroll full time in Fall 2024 and/or Winter 2025
