How to Apply for Loans

Before requesting a student loan, be sure to read and understand all the information about maintaining your loan eligibility.


Direct Student Loans

  1. Complete the FAFSA Application.
    • Fall 2023, Winter 2023, and Spring/Summer 2023 and 2023-24
    • Please note that your FAFSA is not complete until you have received an email from Schoolcraft.
  2. Complete both your Entrance Loan Counseling AND Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at studentaid.gov:
    • If you have had a loan previously at Schoolcraft, you do not need to complete this step.
    • Wait 24-48 hours after this step to complete step 3.
  3. To request a loan, login to Ocelot Access:
    • Go to the Financial Aid card.
    • Choose Request a New Loan and follow the instructions on the screen.

Please note that Schoolcraft College does not certify PLUS loans or private alternative student loans.


Charles E. Schell Foundation

The Charles E. Schell Foundation is providing students with loans that will be awarded to qualified students to aid them in securing a practical education that, without this loan, probably would not be attainable. Repayment of this loan will ensure assistance for other students to continue their education.

Qualifications

Students selected must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must complete a FAFSA application
  • Michigan Residents between the ages of 18 to 25
  • Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress policy (2.0 GPA overall and 67% completion rate of classes overall)
  • Loyal to the US and its institutions including Army, Navy and Air Force
  • Declared program of study (Police Academy, EMT, Criminal Justice, Nursing*, Culinary*)
    *must be in 2nd year of program.

Award

  • Loan amounts will be awarded up to $2000 per academic year based on eligibility and financial need.
  • Charles Schell Loan recipients will be required to sign the Charles E. Schell Promissory Note and complete Exit Counseling.
  • Applications are accepted year round.
  • Consideration will be given to applicants with the greatest need.
