Student Employment

Are you interested in working on campus as a student employee? The Student Employment Office coordinates all on-campus student employment. Student job vacancies are posted on their digital job board:

General Guidelines

Student Assistants are eligible to work a maximum of 25 hours per week on campus. International students and Work Study students are eligible to work a maximum of 20 hours per week on campus. All student employees must meet minimum enrollment and GPA requirements in order to apply for and work in an on-campus job.

Students are not allowed to work in more than one department on campus at a time. Once placed in a department on campus, students may not change to a different department on campus due to the amount of training and time invested by department supervisors.

Benefits of Being a Student Employee

Student employment is an opportunity to learn essential employment skills such as teamwork, effective communication, organization and critical thinking while attending classes at Schoolcraft. On campus employment is a convenient option that allows students to work while upholding their commitment to academic success.

Student Employment Eligibility

Students must be registered for and maintain a minimum of six (6) credit hours during the fall and winter semesters, a minimum of three (3) credit hours during the spring session and summer session. Students must have and maintain 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Students are not eligible for on-campus student employment if any of the following apply:

  • Not eligible to work in the United States;
  • Do not have a United States Social Security number assigned by the Social Security Administration;
  • Do not meet the enrollment and GPA requirements;
  • Were previously hired for student employment and had their employment terminated by their campus department supervisor.

Typical Student Employment Job Opportunities

Many skilled and unskilled jobs are available on campus. Positions  available include: office assistant, receptionist, customer service, tutor, computer lab assistant, newspaper staff member, food service worker, facilities and ground worker, library or bookstore assistant – and more!

Applying for On-Campus Employment

All on-campus job postings are listed on our digital job board. Students may fill out the application and send it by email to [email protected]. Some positions require an additional pre-screening interview.

Interviewing for an On-Campus Job

Dress appropriately and be on time for the interview. Remember to bring your class schedule to the interview. Be prepared to discuss any previous employment, volunteer experiences, and skills required for the job. Be sure to thank the interviewer for their time and consideration.

After Your Interview

Once a student is hired, they will schedule an appointment to meet with Student Employment staff to complete necessary hiring authorization paperwork. All student employees will receive a Student Employment Handbook with the guidelines and policies for Schoolcraft College student employees. If a student is not selected for an on-campus job after interviewing, they may continue to search through available job postings to apply for other positions on campus.
