The funding will support Schoolcraft’s capabilities to address the growing demand for skilled workers in maritime manufacturing, focusing on the areas of welding, CNC machining, industrial maintenance, electrical systems, robotics and automation.

Schoolcraft College has been awarded **$**630,876 through the Michigan Industry-Driven Skills Training Program (MIDSTP) to expand advanced manufacturing training opportunities and strengthen the skilled workforce pipeline in southeast Michigan.

MIDSTP is a statewide effort by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) to strengthen Michigan’s maritime and advanced manufacturing talent pipeline.

“Schoolcraft College’s workforce development mission closely aligns with MIDSTP’s focus on industry-led competency-based training that prepares workers for high-wage, high-demand occupation,” said Dr. Glenn Cerny, President of Schoolcraft College. “This project will deliver measurable workforce outcomes to support Michigan’s priority manufacturing sectors including mobility, defense, and maritime industries.”

The MIDSTP project will support Schoolcraft’s capabilities to address the growing demand for skilled workers in maritime manufacturing, focusing on the areas of welding, CNC machining, industrial maintenance, electrical systems, robotics and automation. Aligning training with the specific skills needed by regional employers and the broader maritime and manufacturing industries will be a critical element of this project. In addition, the award will be used for high-tech equipment purchases and upgrades, professional development for instructors, recruitment efforts, and improvements to training spaces.

“Schoolcraft has extensive experience delivering customized training, non-credit workforce programs, apprenticeships, and incumbent worker training designed around employer-defined competencies,” said Amy Jones, Executive Director of Workforce Development at Schoolcraft College. “This award will help us double-down on our partnerships to deliver industry-aligned training that will expand the advanced manufacturing workforce in Southeast Michigan.”

The project will operate through June 30, 2029, providing Schoolcraft with an opportunity to expand its advanced manufacturing training capacity, strengthen employer partnerships, and develop new pathways into skilled technical careers.
