Chinese-born Xiao Dong Wei, a 2012 Kresge Fellow, is a master of the erhu, a two-string Chinese fiddle that has played a noble role in Chinese folk and classical music. While she knows her native traditions like the back of her hand, she has also made a specialty out of bringing her instrument into Western classical idioms and American pop music.

Her performances include a broad range of piano works, including chamber music and as a soloist with orchestras.
