Eligibility for Financial Aid
Eligibility requirements for each type of financial aid are determined by federal, state, and institutional policies. The application, process, deadline, eligibility requirements, determination of awards, and rules to maintain eligibility vary for different award programs. Questions on any award program should be directed to the Financial Aid Office. In addition to meeting program eligibility requirements, students must adhere to all college policies and procedures.
For most award types, the following conditions must be met for students to become, and remain, eligible:
- Be fully accepted into Schoolcraft College.
- Have a valid degree-seeking or certificate program declared. Note: some types of aid are available to Guest students and high school students.
- Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Equivalencies include GED, home school, foreign equivalents to a US high school diploma. Note: some types of aid are available to high school students.
Financial aid eligibility may change at any time due to, but not limited to, the following:
- Change in your enrollment (including receiving grades in courses, number of weeks enrolled, number of credits enrolled, change in your academic program, etc.)
- Change in your eligibility as it relates to any award criteria.
- Receipt of additional funds or educational financial assistance
- Change in your financial aid history at any institution or agency (examples: if you default on a prior loan, if another institution updates your aggregate limits used, if you are selected for Verification or other document review, etc.).
- Enrollment at another institution
- Change in federal, state, or institutional regulations, policies or availability of funds.
- If the Office of Financial Aid receives anything that is conflicting or incorrect in your student file
- If the college becomes aware of any required adjustments needed on the student’s record
- For students who receive the Schoolcraft Employee Tuition Grant, please be aware your funding amount can change at anytime due to your total charges and other financial awards.
Awards may change, even after refunds have been sent out. This can sometimes create a balance owed to the college. It is the student’s responsibility to repay this balance in full, regardless of the reason or timing of the balance created. The timing of the balance being created does not absolve the student from the responsibility of paying the balance owed, regardless of the timing or reason for the adjustment.
