MSK (Musculoskeletal Ultrasound) Structured Education
Course Overview
Schoolcraft College’s MSK (Musculoskeletal Ultrasound) Structured Education program is designed for registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) who are preparing for the ARDMS post-primary certification exam in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Developed in collaboration with leading experts and in response to healthcare partner feedback, the MSK training program launched in January 2026 and reached full enrollment. This short‑term program combines online didactic instruction with video‑based scanning competencies conducted over 25 weeks, ensuring participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Our Fall 2026 offering is being enhanced to include simulated scanning competencies, making the course fully online.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will gain the knowledge and competencies to:
- Apply ultrasound physics, system instrumentation, and image optimization to MSK imaging.
- Identify and evaluate the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the musculoskeletal system, including upper and lower extremities, abdominal wall, chest wall, hip, pelvis, knee, and pediatric considerations.
- Demonstrate proper patient orientation, scanning protocols, and ergonomic techniques.
- Perform and critique hands-on MSK ultrasound scans, distinguishing between normal and abnormal structures.
- Apply infection control, safety, and ethical practices in ultrasound imaging.
- Recognize and analyze artifacts, Doppler patterns, and sonographic findings in injuries, disease processes, and post-surgical changes.
- Demonstrate proficiency in ultrasound-guided procedures of the musculoskeletal system.
- Prepare for the ARDMS MSK certification exam with review sessions and a mock exam.
