MRI Structured Education

Course Overview

Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Radiation Therapists (ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technologists (ARRT or NMTCB), and ARDMS or ARRT Registered Sonographers who are preparing for the ARRT post-primary certification exam in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Delivered fully online over 16 weeks, this 32-hour program provides the didactic knowledge required by the ARRT, with weekly 2-hour lectures, case studies, discussion boards, and practice exams. The course covers MRI physics, instrumentation, safety, image quality, cross-sectional anatomy, pathology, patient care, and exam strategies. Sessions are also recorded for students who are unable to attend the online session. Students who complete all sessions will receive 32.5 CEU credits.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will gain the knowledge and competencies to:

  • Explore the history, evolution, and emerging technologies of MRI.
  • Understand MRI system components, image acquisition, and tissue characteristics.
  • Apply patient care, screening, and safety procedures in the MRI environment.
  • Evaluate image quality, signal characteristics, and common artifacts.
  • Distinguish cross-sectional anatomy and pathology across body systems.
  • Administer contrast safely, including precautions and response to complications.
  • Review quality control, regulatory requirements, and professional ethics.
  • Prepare for the ARRT MRI certification exam with focused practice and test-taking strategies.

  • Length: 16 weeks (32 total hours)
  • Schedule: Online lectures, 2 hours weekly + assignments and mock exam
  • Enrollment: Maximum 20 students
  • Location: Online via Blackboard
