Placement Testing

The Testing Center is offering testing by appointment only for in-person, on-campus testing. Appointment times vary by the day.

  • Schedule your appointment for Placement Testing

Within 1-2 business days after scheduling your appointment, you will receive an email that you can use as a Testing Center Admission Ticket from [email protected] with additional instructions.

Additional Notes:

  • You will need a picture ID with your first and last name (no copy or picture on cellphone is acceptable). Learn more about student identification guidelines.
*Schoolcraft College reserves the right to ask for additional documentation for verification.
  • Please plan to arrive on campus 5-10 minutes before your appointment.
  • After taking the placement exam, please schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor to talk about course recommendations and next steps for registration. Schedule an appointment by calling 734-462-4429.
  • ESL Students: ESL Placement Testing appointments must be scheduled by clicking the link above. If you are a Personal & Professional Learning student that has not been issued a College ID number, you may type any text into the required ‘Schoolcraft Student ID #’’ field on the appointment form. Once you have scheduled your appointment, please visit the Registration Office in the McDowell Center Monday-Friday 8am-5pm to obtain your I.D. number prior to testing.

Accuplacer Retesting Rules:

  • Accuplacer testing will be limited to 3 attempts in a 12-month period.
  • A second test attempt may be taken 48 hours after the first attempt and must have Advisor approval.
  • A third test attempt may be taken 2 months after the most recent attempt and must have Advisor approval.
  • Additional testing must occur 12 months after the first attempt and must have Advisor approval.
  • Retesting fee: $5.00 per section, paid by the student.

Students entering Schoolcraft College may submit SAT or ACT scores or college transfer credit demonstrating their ability in reading, writing and math, or they may take a placement test in the Testing Center.

Placement testing is a service provided by Schoolcraft College to determine placement into Schoolcraft classes only. Your placement scores will not be provided to other institutions. If you need to enroll at another school, please contact them to make arrangements to take their placement test.

  • To insure proper course placement, testing is mandatory for all new students who have not taken the ACT or SAT.
  • Placement tests measure skill accomplishment in English, math, and reading.
  • Scores indicate skill levels only; there is no passing or failing.
  • Allow approximately 2½ hours for testing.
  • There is no charge for initial testing; however, retakes are $5 per subtest.
  • You will need a picture ID with your first and last name (no copy or picture on cellphone is acceptable). Learn more about student identification guidelines.
*Schoolcraft College reserves the right to ask for additional documentation for verification.

Accuplacer/CPT

Accuplacer/CPT is a computerized assessment test that will provide information about your level of skill accomplishment in reading, writing and one of three levels of mathematics. Assessing your ability in these areas will help you and your advisor or counselor determine college courses most appropriate for you.

You will take the test on a computer. A Test Administrator will be available if you have any questions during the test. The test instructions are easy to understand. You will use the keyboard or the mouse to enter your answers and supply other information.

Most questions are multiple choice. Tests are untimed so you can give each question as much thought as you wish.

Accuplacer/Practice

For ESL testing, please see the Classic ACCUPLACER Sample Questions. For any other Placement test, please see the NEXT GENERATION Sample Questions by specific topic areas.
