December 14, 2018
Honors Scholar, Marie Chantal Nyirahategekimana received First Place in Writing and Third Place in Art in the Fall 2018 International Agenda Writing and Art Contest. The contest is sponsored by Schoolcraft’s International Agenda magazine and generously funded by the Office of Instruction. Her painting is inspired by her mother and the hardships her family faced during the Rwandan genocide. Marie stated, “My mother told me that while in the refugee camp, she often had to walk miles to get just a little bit of water. The painting is a representation of my mother, her strength, and her ability to survive.”
