MIIIE Partners

The Midwest Institute for International/Intercultural Education (MIIIE) is a self-funded consortium of two-year colleges located in the Midwest region. Its primary objective is to promote and support curriculum and professional development in international and intercultural education by organizing curriculum workshops and conferences, overseas projects for faculty and students, assistance with grant development, as well as providing faculty mentoring and professional networking. The Midwest Institute is directed by Theo Sypris and located at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Kalamazoo, MI.

Faculty development opportunities are provided by the Midwest Institute for International/ Intercultural Education (MIIIE)

MIIIE membership provides Schoolcraft College with:

  • Two-day Conferences
  • Summer Workshops for faculty to develop intercultural course modules
  • Midwest Connections Newsletter
  • Travel/study abroad for students
  • Title VI Grant
  • Fulbright grants
  • Website resources

As an MIIIE member, Schoolcraft College was able to send two faculty members to China in 2005 as part of a successful MIIIE Fulbright GPA grant. Over the past several years, a number of Schoolcraft instructors have attended the Summer Workshops at KVCC funded by an MIIIE Title VI grant to develop intercultural/international modules for existing courses.

More than 250 of these curriculum modules have been developed by consortium members for course infusion in disciplines as diverse as Humanities, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Business, Communication, Arts, Foreign Languages, Social Sciences, Nursing, and Mathematics. Abstracts of these modules are available on the MIIIE website or from the Schoolcraft MIIIE Representative.
