Frequently Asked Questions for Microsoft 365
What does it cost to have Microsoft 365?
Schoolcraft College has a license agreement with Microsoft to provide Microsoft 365 to our students free of charge. You will have access only while you are enrolled in a credit course during the current semester.
When does my access to Microsoft 365 start?
At this time, you can expect your Microsoft 365 license to become active within 24 hours of your course registration for the current semester.
When will I lose access to Microsoft 365?
Currently your access to Microsoft 365 lasts for the length of the semester in which you are enrolled in credit classes. Because you will lose access once the semester ends, you should copy any files saved to your OneDrive account to another location before the end of the semester to ensure you do not lose them.

Where can I get help with Microsoft 365?
Microsoft is providing the license to you through Schoolcraft College but we can not provide support other than to verify that you have been granted a license to use it. If you need additional help you can look at the Microsoft Office Help & Training website.
What if I already have an Microsoft 365 Account?
If you already used your Schoolcraft email address to get a free Microsoft 365 account you may have set it up as a personal account. If that is the case you will now have 2 accounts using the same email. When you login, if you choose Personal account you will access the account you set up. If you choose Work or School account you will access your Schoolcraft supplied account. They are independent of each other and can’t be merged into one account. Your Schoolcraft supplied account does offer more OneDrive storage and the ability to install Office onto your own devices.
You may also have accounts from other colleges or universities. All accounts are separate and you can have multiple accounts.
What devices can I use to access Microsoft 365?
You can access Microsoft 365 from PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, tablets, and mobile devices. The ability to install Office is only available for PCs and Macs with Access and Publisher only available on PC. You can install a mobile app on your phone for Office which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You can install Office on any combination of up to 5 devices.
Do I get a new email address?
No. You will continue to use your Schoolcraft email provided by Google Gmail. You can login to your email account at https://scmail.schoolcraft.edu.
What if I don’t know my email address?
If you’ve never used your Schoolcraft email account then you should login and start using it. Schoolcraft uses this email for all college communication. You can login to your email account at https://scmail.schoolcraft.edu. After you login, hover over your account icon in the upper-right corner and it will display your name and email address.
What if I change my name? Will that affect my access to Microsoft 365?
If you change your name and contact Schoolcraft to have your records updated, you will be assigned a new email address that reflects the change. This process can take a few days so if using your new address doesn’t work, continue to use your old email address until it no longer allows you to login. Then you’ll use the new one. This kind of change should not affect any documents you may have saved to your OneDrive storage.
Can I use Outlook to access my Schoolcraft email?
