Pride Team hosts a Book Discussion with Professor Brianna Andromeda Purcell

On February 6, 2024 the Office of Equity & Engagement’s Pride Team hosted a Book Discussion with Professor Brianna Andromeda Purcell, for an in-depth discussion on her book Galaxy Girls: Inquisitive Pioneer Adventures. One of the biggest takeaways from this event was the message that we must continue helping to bridge the gap that persist for Women in the field of STEM. 

Brianna shared that the genesis of her book began with her own self exploration, and that her lived experiences as a member of the LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈 community, led her to create the characters in her book, including the main character Andromeda, who she shared mirrored her own likeness. Participants had an opportunity to see Brianna’s fascinating work in action as she showed how to utilize basic items that can be found in your kitchen, to solve some of the most challenging math equations.
