Juneteenth 2023
The Office of Equity & Engagement was proud to host its first ever DEI STARS Fellows Community / Campus wide event to commemorate Juneteenth, marked as a national holiday; noted as the end of slavery as it is when the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 took place; Yet! The reality is that many people remained enslaved well beyond that point. This event provided an opportunity for an exceptional lineup of distinguished speakers to reflect on the past, shed light on continued challenges faced by African Americans, and most importantly to recognize the potential for a brighter more inclusive society for all. This fellowship event was an opportunity to bring our Schoolcraft family closer together through spoken word, dance, music, games, vendors and resources from valued community stakeholders.
