Pride 2023
Following special invitation, the Office of Equity and Engagement had the distinct honor of celebrating the LGBTQ+ community with the Livonia Human Relations Commission at the city’s first ever Pride Celebration and Resource Fair on June 17. This culminated from the partnership encouraged by recently appointed Commissioner and Schoolcraft student, Madison Ling, who has since connected the office with fellow commissioner, Denise Collins-Robison, to support the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) beyond the walls of our own institution – by putting the community in community college!
In addition to this monumental first, the Office of Equity and Engagement is proud to announce the creation of our very own Pride Team. This initiative was created by Catreese Qualls DEI Research Assistant on behalf of the Office of Equity & Engagement in response to students and other community members who identify within the LGBTQ+ community looking to improve inclusivity and engagement. As well as foster fellowship and a belonging atmosphere, the Pride Team hosted a Sip & Chat event to raise awareness to history past and present of the LGBTQ community and to provide a platform for members of our community to share lived experiences in the brave space created here at Schoolcraft College under the Leadership of our Pride Team comprised of the Office of Equity & Engagement, Faculty, Students, Staff, Administrators and Alumni.
