A PAIR OF KINGS
New adaptations on Sophocles\u2019 OEDIPUS REX and Jarry\u2019s UBU ROI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Written and directed by Paul Beer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These timeless stories are retold as one-act plays with contemporary language, humor, and even music, to poke at today\u2019s political challenges.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hubris of Oedipus and the madness of Ubu stand front and center in this contemporary retelling of these classic stories, and highlight our present manic political landscape.  Aristotle wrote that Sophocles\u2019 Oedipus was the best example of Greek tragedy.  Our version retains the tragedy and adds modern language, humor, and music.  Alfred Jarry\u2019s Ubu Roi was the first absurdist play and was a retelling of Shakespeare\u2019s Macbeth.  The play caused a minor riot at its premiere in Paris in 1896.  We retain Ubu\u2019s absurdity, and allow him to mirror some of today\u2019s political drama. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAESTRO<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Written and directed by Michael Alan Herman<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

In this romantic farce, the Maestro to the king dies in 18th<\/sup> century Vienna and two genius composers compete to claim the royal position.  Through love, pistols at dawn, and outrageous sarcasm, one of them remains a misunderstood genius while the other becomes the maestro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
