Theme: African Americans and the Arts

The Office of Equity & Engagement is excited to announce that we’re hosting our second annual Black Excellence in the Arts Award Contest.
The 2024 national Black History Month theme is “African Americans and the Arts.” This year is dedicated to celebrating the profound influence Black Americans have wielded across the visual arts, music, cultural movements, and beyond. Submissions to the contest should highlight African American artists who have used their art to preserve history, uplift and pay tribute to the Black experience, and move social justice movements forward.
Submission Criteria
Essay
250 word essay or poems between 60 to 100 words
Visual Artwork
An original artwork accompanied by a description of the submission piece
Video Presentation
PowerPoint, Slideshow, Documentary, Video or Audio Clip must be at least 10 minutes
Music
Submissions may be recorded or instrumentals performed live
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
Award Ceremony: Thursday, February 22, 2024

Three winners will be chosen from each category and three honorable mentions.
Entrants may only be awarded once.
Previous years’ nominees are not eligible for submission.
All winning entries will be displayed and honorees will have an opportunity to recite, perform or share the inspiration for their submission.
