Phillips, who now attends the University of Michigan, spent all of July at the U-M Biological Station on Douglas Lake in Pellston in the northern Lower Peninsula. There, he participated in U-M\u2019s Great Lakes Arts, Cultures, and Environments (GLACE) program, which consisted of taking a pair of classes along with students from other community colleges and the University of Michigan. Subjects included classes in English, Anthropology and Native American history, with activities such as a boat trip to Mackinac Island, visiting local ecosystems, reading and writing poetry, and making prints with a printing press. Given the needs for remote learning and social distancing on campus, Camila has led Amnesty International Club through various virtual events including a COVID-19 presentation with Professor Kristin Fruth and a Black Lives Matter movie night. On October 2, 2020, Camila was featured in City of Asylum Pittsburgh and Amnesty International Ithaca\u2019s &#8220;Crossing the Line&#8221; event, a national presentation about free expression, political cartoons, and the importance of humor in today\u2019s political climate. Daniel was selected as one of only 55 nation-wide recipients of the prestigious 2019 Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. Daniel said, \u201cI had an absolute blast connecting with my fellow scholars from across the country! The Atypical Variety Show (4\/26) was hosted and organized by Peter Bushaw, Alessandra McBroom, and Joseph Jankowski. This was not your typical variety show, as all of the acts included individuals of the special needs population of all ages. The contest is sponsored by Schoolcraft\u2019s International Agenda magazine and generously funded by the Office of Instruction. Her painting is inspired by her mother and the hardships her family faced during the Rwandan genocide. Marie stated, \u201cMy mother told me that while in the refugee camp, she often had to walk miles to get just a little bit of water. Wonfor was awarded the 2017-2018 Newman Civic Fellowship for her outstanding service. She co-founded Hearts and Hugs, a non-profit organization through which she crochets and donates hats for prenatal babies.
