The Soroka-Greene Duo<\/strong> is a husband-wife team of international prize-winning soloists, presenting brilliant and personal performances of standard violin-piano repertoire as well as many unique and fascinating lesser-known works. The couple made the first recording of the four Bolcom Sonatas, and Solomia Soroka discovered otherwise unplayed exquisite works of Arthur Hartmann. They have performed together throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Third Coast Swing<\/strong> has been playing the music of the late Belgium-born Romani Gypsy, Django Reinhardt & his band, The Hot Club of Paris 1930\u2019s-1940\u2019s. Think Louis Armstrong with a French accent. The band has performed with National Touring acts such as Frank Vignola, Denis Chang, Jimmy Grant, Dave Bennett and The Midwest Gypsy Jazz Fest in Madison, Wisconsin. Regional performances include the West Michigan Jazz Society, the Ludington Amphitheater, the Ludington Area Center for the Arts, Bell\u2019s Kalamazoo, Detroit Jazz Society, Crooked Tree Arts Center, and Kerrytown Concert House.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Michael Boyd <\/strong>is a Steinway artist who has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and at guest recitals across Europe and the United States, including Carnegie Hall. A professor of piano at the University of Toledo, Boyd holds both master\u2019s and doctoral degrees from the Eastman School of Music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cellist Damon Coleman<\/strong> began his cello studies through the Suzuki method in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Damon has been the principal cellist of the Kalamazoo Symphony, the Memphis Opera, the Flint Symphony, and the Michigan Chamber Orchestra. He has served as a faculty member of the Miami School for the Arts, the Ann Arbor School for the Arts, the New England Music Camp.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Seven piece Jazz ensemble plays Holiday favorites

Jazz bassist, composer, arranger and bandleader Paul Keller<\/strong> has been a favorite with Detroit and Ann Arbor Jazz fans for years. His ensembles have covered a range of jazz styles, with arrangements for groups ranging from trio to big band. For this performance of Holiday music, the 7-piece Paul Keller Ensemble will be joined by vocalist Sarah D\u2019Angelo<\/strong>. In addition to Keller, instrumentalists include trumpeter Paul Finkbeiner<\/strong>, saxophonist Keith Kaminski<\/strong>, trombonist Terry Kimura<\/strong>, pianist Ellen Rowe<\/strong> and drummer Sean Dobbins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Schoolcraft Jazz Studies Program under the direction of Dr. Riccardo Selva presents a concert of Jazz featuring the talented instrumentalists and vocalists of The Jazz Ensemble and The Jazz Improvisation Combo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The repertoire for both large and small jazz groups will consist of traditional, contemporary, and holiday jazz arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission is free.<\/strong>
Made possible by a grant from the Schoolcraft College Foundation.
Donations will be gratefully accepted at the door and will be used to fund student scholarships and the Jazz Program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Dodworth Saxhorn Band<\/strong> (DSB), headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is America\u2019s Premier 19th Century Brass Band. Presenting performances in the context of the social and political issues of the time, the DSB recreates the music and atmosphere of a 19th Century community brass band.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Chinese-born Xiao Dong Wei,<\/strong> a 2012 Kresge Fellow, is a master of the erhu, a two-string Chinese fiddle that has played a noble role in Chinese folk and classical music. While she knows her native traditions like the back of her hand, she has also made a specialty out of bringing her instrument into Western classical idioms and American pop music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japanese-born pianist Yuki Mack<\/strong> has performed throughout the United States and three continents. Her performances include a broad range of piano works, including chamber music and as a soloist with orchestras. Beyond the main stage, she has performed live on the radio in Sweden, Italy, Poland, and the United States, and has appeared in a documentary on PBS.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Sung<\/strong> is an award- winning jazz pianist, composer, and educator whose work bridges cultures through the language of jazz. In 2022, she received the prestigious John Stites Jazz Award for artistic development, which has supported her ongoing exploration of world musical traditions within jazz contexts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Calvin University and Aquinas College, where she directs the Calvin Jazz Band and co-directs the Gospel Choir.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Paul Michalsen<\/strong> is an educator, professional musician and clinician who has performed across the United States, Canada, and Great Britain with organizations such as the International Trumpet Guild and the Association of Concert Bands. He plays cornet in several Brass Bands and is the founding director of the Plymouth Brass Ensemble. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Soonghee Ha<\/strong> teaches Class Piano and Music History. She received her doctoral degree in Piano Performance and Master of Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Ha is an active performer as both a soloist and a collaborative accompanist. She also teaches from her piano studio in Northville. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leslie Mason<\/strong>, soprano, is a recent addition to the Schoolcraft Music Faculty. Leslie has appeared on stages around the world, including concerts in Graz, Austria, Carnegie Hall, Detroit Institute of the Arts, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre, Detroit Boxing Club, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Faculty Recital Series. Ms. Mason holds a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from Bowling Green State University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Frederick Moss<\/strong> joined the faculty at Schoolcraft College in the fall of 2002. During his college teaching career, he has taught a variety of courses including Music for Elementary School Teachers, Music Appreciation, Popular Music in America, and Instrumental Music Performance. An accomplished clarinetist, Dr. Moss has performed in numerous solo and chamber music recitals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kongruent\u2019s Dr. Kenneth Gill <\/strong>is a gifted trombonist, composer, educator, clinician, and advocate for the arts. Born and raised in Detroit, Gill earned a Bachelor of Music in Education from Howard University, a Master of Music from Kent State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation from the University of Michigan. As an in-demand trombonist, he has recorded and performed with a variety of artists and ensembles. In 2019, he released an LP titled The Good News.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
