
{"id":30,"date":"2022-06-02T18:43:15","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T18:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stgschoolcraft.wpengine.com\/macguffin\/poet-hunt-contest\/"},"modified":"2026-03-17T20:56:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T20:56:16","slug":"poet-hunt-contest","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.schoolcraft.edu\/macguffin\/poet-hunt-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Poet Hunt Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The MacGuffin\u2019s 31<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Poet Hunt Contest<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container callout-primary gb-block-container\"><div class=\"gb-container-inside\"><div class=\"gb-container-content\">\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong>Guest judged by Nandi Comer, 2023\u20132025 Michigan poet laureate.<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The contest is open from&nbsp;<strong>April 1<\/strong>&nbsp;and closes&nbsp;at the end of&nbsp;<strong>June 15<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One (1) First Place Winner will receive a prize of $500 and publication. Grand prizes to be awarded to entrants from outside the United States may be fulfilled on an extended timeline due to college policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Up to two (2) Honorable Mentions may also be awarded and published.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each entrant will receive one&nbsp;<strong>free<\/strong>&nbsp;issue of&nbsp;<em>The MacGuffin<\/em>&nbsp;that includes the winners of Poet Hunt 31.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grand Prize Winners from the following 10 years, former Poet Hunt guest judges, and past and present staff members and their families are not eligible to participate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Submission Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There is a<strong>&nbsp;$15<\/strong>&nbsp;entry fee. If paying by check or money order, please make payable to \u201cSCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An entry may consist of up to&nbsp;<strong>5 poems<\/strong>. If more than 5 are sent, only the first 5 will be considered. Each poem can be up to 400 lines long. Poems longer than 400 lines will not be considered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poems submitted may not be previously published and must be the original work of the contestant (however, translations are not permitted). Poems may be under consideration elsewhere.&nbsp;<em>The MacGuffin<\/em>&nbsp;reserves the right to disqualify work that is accepted elsewhere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If at all possible, please send&nbsp;<strong>all withdrawals<\/strong>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<strong>Friday, July 31, 2026.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entries will be initially screened by&nbsp;<em>The MacGuffin<\/em>&nbsp;staff through a blind review process. Based on an anonymous vote, 15 to 25 finalists will be sent to the guest judge for a final blind review with one (1) first place winner and up to two (2) honorable mentions ultimately being selected from this pool.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winners will be announced in September 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">To Submit via Submittable<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/themacguffin.submittable.com\/submit\">Submittable page<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Poet Hunt form will not go live until April 1, 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">For Postal Submissions<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Poems must be typed or printed on sheets of 8\u00bd\u2033 \u00d7 11\u2033 paper. Clean photo copies are acceptable.&nbsp;<strong>Do not include your name, address, or other identifying information on the poems<\/strong>&nbsp;to preserve the&nbsp;anonymous review process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each entrant must include an index card or cover page that lists&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>titles of the poems entered,<\/strong>&nbsp;along with the contestant\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>name, address, daytime telephone number<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>email address<\/strong>. This information will only be used to contact you in light of a problem with your submission, to mail your complimentary issue, and to announce the winners of the contest.
