F-1 border commuter status allows eligible Canadian citizens to attend classes in the U.S. while maintaining residence in Canada. Because this status carries specific requirements, it is important to understand and follow all regulations to remain in compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this is an option you would like to pursue, please schedule an appointment with our office to discuss your eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"color:#ddd\" class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-spacer gb-block-spacer gb-divider-solid gb-spacer-divider gb-divider-size-1\"><hr style=\"height:60px\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify as an F-1 border commuter student, you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be a Canadian citizen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain a permanent residence in Canada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reside within 75 miles of the U.S.\u2013Canada border.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be admitted to a full-time academic program at the College\/University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receive a valid Form I-20 issued by our International Student Office indicating commuter status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seek admission in F-1 status at a U.S. Port of Entry each time you enter the United States for study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"color:#ddd\" class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-spacer gb-block-spacer gb-divider-solid gb-spacer-divider gb-divider-size-1\"><hr style=\"height:60px\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remain in Lawful F-1 Commuter Status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To remain in lawful F-1 commuter status, you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maintain enrollment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to reside within 75 miles of the U.S.\u2013Canada border.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep immigration documents valid and up to date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report any changes in academic program, major, address, or personal information to the International Student Office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depart the United States after completing your academic activities each day, as you are not authorized to live in the U.S.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"color:#ddd\" class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-spacer gb-block-spacer gb-divider-solid gb-spacer-divider gb-divider-size-1\"><hr style=\"height:60px\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Considerations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>F-1 border commuter regulations are governed by U.S. federal immigration law and are subject to change.
