Professor Michael Orick joined the Schoolcraft College Biology Department in 1992.  During that time, he led the Department's effort to develop a set of introductory biology courses (BIOL 120, BIOL 130) for science majors.  Professor Orick was instrumental in introducing biotechnology activities into the Department's laboratory courses.  As an Honors Faculty Advisor, he has assisted many students in completing their projects for honors credit.  Prior to teaching, Professor Orick worked as a natural history interpreter, research biologist and environmental consultant.  His published research on the genetic diversity of Dwarf Lake Iris became a primary resource for the USFWS in developing their recovery plan for the threatened species.

Outside of the classroom, Professor Orick is active in several conservation groups.  He also enjoys woodworking and has artwork displayed in local art galleries.  He is married with two children.
