Students often ask Profesora Nofz about how she came to be a Spanish professor. According to Nofz, from her very first contact with Spanish—as a student in a middle-school classroom—she has been enamored with the language and culture of the Hispanic world. As a result, her hope for her students has always been that they would also get excited about Spanish—that they would leave their semester together with the desire to further pursue their studies in Spanish, whether it is at Schoolcraft or beyond. In this day and age, knowing a language other than one’s native tongue just makes good sense both professionally and personally. As for Nofz, her journey with Spanish has been such a rewarding and fulfilling endeavor that she feels privileged to share her passion daily with her students. Her goal each semester is to provide her students with an awareness of and appreciation for people of Hispanic culture, and likewise to equip her students with the language skills needed—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—to communicate with Spanish-speaking people. ¡Viva el español!
