DESCRIPTION:The Schoolcraft Jazz Studies Program under the direction of Dr. Riccardo Selva presents a concert of Jazz featuring the talented instrumentalists and vocalists of The Jazz Ensemble and The Jazz Improvisation Combo. \n\n\n\nThe repertoire for both large and small jazz groups will consist of traditional\, contemporary\, and holiday jazz arrangements. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdmission is free. Made possible by a grant from the Schoolcraft College Foundation. SUMMARY:Noon Concert Series: Music of China for the Chinese New Year
DESCRIPTION:Music of China for Chinese New YearVistatech Center\, Kehrl Auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChinese-born Xiao Dong Wei\, a 2012 Kresge Fellow\, is a master of the erhu\, a two-string Chinese fiddle that has played a noble role in Chinese folk and classical music. While she knows her native traditions like the back of her hand\, she has also made a specialty out of bringing her instrument into Western classical idioms and American pop music. \n\n\n\nJapanese-born pianist Yuki Mack has performed throughout the United States and three continents. Her performances include a broad range of piano works\, including chamber music and as a soloist with orchestras. Beyond the main stage\, she has performed live on the radio in Sweden\, Italy\, Poland\, and the United States\, and has appeared in a documentary on PBS. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick to Download PDF

DESCRIPTION:Solo Jazz Piano Vistatech Center\, Kehrl Auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLisa Sung is an award- winning jazz pianist\, composer\, and educator whose work bridges cultures through the language of jazz. DESCRIPTION:Paul Michalsen\, trumpet | Soonghee Ha\, pianoLeslie Mason\, voice | Frederick Moss\, clarinet \n\n\n\nSchoolcraft music faculty perform a variety of pieces on a variety of instruments Vistatech Center\, Kehrl Auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPaul Michalsen is an educator\, professional musician and clinician who has performed across the United States\, Canada\, and Great Britain with organizations such as the International Trumpet Guild and the Association of Concert Bands. He plays cornet in several Brass Bands and is the founding director of the Plymouth Brass Ensemble. \n\n\n\nDr. Soonghee Ha teaches Class Piano and Music History. She received her doctoral degree in Piano Performance and Master of Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Ha is an active performer as both a soloist and a collaborative accompanist. She also teaches from her piano studio in Northville. \n\n\n\nLeslie Mason\, soprano\, is a recent addition to the Schoolcraft Music Faculty. Leslie has appeared on stages around the world\, including concerts in Graz\, Austria\, Carnegie Hall\, Detroit Institute of the Arts\, Detroit Symphony Orchestra\, Michigan Opera Theatre\, Detroit Boxing Club\, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Faculty Recital Series. Ms. Mason holds a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from Bowling Green State University. \n\n\n\nDr. Frederick Moss joined the faculty at Schoolcraft College in the fall of 2002. During his college teaching career\, he has taught a variety of courses including Music for Elementary School Teachers\, Music Appreciation\, Popular Music in America\, and Instrumental Music Performance.
