Workshop Description: In this session, participants will learn about personal, professional, and organizational equity dimensions. They will identify their personal roadblocks to being active bystanders when witnessing microaggressions. Additionally, they will learn key concepts, history, and research related to why we don’t act. Participants will also analyze campus and department culture and practices evaluating preparedness to meet The Bystander Imperative. Participants will take the foundations of their knowledge from thought to action. Together, we will learn and practice techniques to intervene in microaggressive situations and develop a personal response phrase. The session will conclude with participants building communities of accountability.

Presenter: Nick Daily (He/They) is a Black Queer person whose values are LuvServedDaily. LuvServedDaily is the consistent pursuit of happiness for self and others. He has been doing workshops, training, consultative, and support work for over a decade. Most recently, they served as Chief Diversity Officer for a large community college in CA. He loves road cycling, playing and watching friends/family play video games, karaoke, and food! Throughout life and career, Nick Daily centers the humanity and experiences of everyone trying to do good in this world. This philosophy carries throughout the style and content of the diversity, equity, and inclusion workshops and consultation services they provide to individuals, colleges, and organizations throughout the country.
