A service animal, as defined by the ADA, means a dog (or in some instances, a miniature horse) that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or mental&nbsp;disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schoolcraft College may verify that a service animal is required because of a disability&nbsp;and what work or task the animal has been trained to perform. Issues or questions related&nbsp;to service animals may be directed to the Disability Support Services Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A service animal shall be under the care and control of its handler, and shall have a harness, leash, or other tether, unless either the handler is unable because of a disability&nbsp;to use a harness, leash, or other tether or the use of such restraint would interfere with&nbsp;the service animal\u2019s safe, effective, performance of work or tasks, in which case the&nbsp;handler shall control the service animal through other means (e.g. voice control, signals, or other effective methods).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schoolcraft College may ask an individual to remove a service animal from campus if&nbsp;either: (1) the animal is out of control and the animal\u2019s handler does not take effective&nbsp;actions to control it; or (2) the animal is not housebroken. Though Schoolcraft College&nbsp;may exclude a service animal for these reasons, it shall give the individual with a disability&nbsp;the opportunity to participate in the service, program, or activity without having the service&nbsp;animal on Schoolcraft College\u2019s property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Animals on Campus Policy 1093 Schoolcraft College prohibits animals from being on campus with the exception of service animals.
