
{"id":35,"date":"2022-03-09T19:12:31","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T19:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stgschoolcraft.wpengine.com\/accounts\/?page_id=35"},"modified":"2026-03-02T19:02:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T19:02:51","slug":"tax-information","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.schoolcraft.edu\/accounts\/tax-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Tax Information"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tax Information<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1098-T Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">What is Form 1098-T?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>The 1098-T is the IRS Tuition Statement.\u00a0 Eligible educational institutions are required by the federal government to send Form 1098-T to students for whom payments for qualified tuition and fees were received in calendar year 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">When will the paper forms be sent?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>IRS Form 1098-T is mailed each year by January 31<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;to any student who the college received payment for during the prior calendar year regardless of the method of payment (financial aid, cash payment, employer or agency payment) and did not choose to receive their form electronically.&nbsp; (Example: 2019 Form 1098-T will be mailed by January 31, 2020)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">How can I get a reprint of my 1098-T form?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>You can reprint any already released 1098-T by logging into&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.schoolcraft.edu\/ocelotaccess\">Ocelot Access<\/a>&nbsp;under the Students Main Menu by selecting \u201cStudent Tax Information &#8211; 1098T\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">Why did I receive Form 1098-T?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>Form 1098-T has been provided to you to assist in determining if you, or the individual who may claim you as a dependent, are eligible to claim a Lifetime Learning Credit or an American Opportunity Credit on your 2025 income taxes.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">If I receive Form 1098-T, does it mean I qualify for the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit or an American Opportunity Credit?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>No.\u00a0The college is required to provide Form 1098-T to individuals any time payments were received for qualified tuition and fees during calendar year 2025.\u00a0Please consult with a qualified tax preparer or CPA to make an individual determination.\u00a0<strong><em>Employees\u00a0of Schoolcraft College cannot offer tax advice.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">What if I think the information on the 1098-T is incorrect?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>If you believe the information provided is incorrect, please call 734-462-4586 with your name and student ID number.&nbsp; We find that most of the confusion relates to how the amounts are determined.&nbsp; Keep in mind that the Form 1098-T amounts are determined by calendar year and may not coincide with semesters.&nbsp; For example, if you registered for Winter classes and paid some of your tuition in December and the remaining tuition amount was paid in January the tuition amounts will be reflected on different years Form 1098-T.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-accordion gb-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"gb-accordion-title\">Why did I not receive a 1098-T when I attended Schoolcraft College?<\/summary><div class=\"gb-accordion-text\">\n<p>There are several possibilities&nbsp;including but not limited to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You attended Schoolcraft College in Winter 2025 but you registered and paid in calendar year 2024.
