Biomedical Technology Center

Construction is underway for Schoolcraft College’s newest building, the Biomedical Technology Center, slated to open for classes in fall 2008. The $12.5 million structure will house premedical and medical-related classes, in addition to math and science classes.

As enrollment steadily increases, the need for more classrooms is evident. The building will contain 16 classrooms, four specialized labs, 15 group learning rooms and a learning theater. At 48,000 square feet, the new building can accommodate 3,500 students each year.

The center also represents the college's response to the state’s need to diversify its economy and respond to the growing need for health care professionals as the baby boomer generation ages. It also will offer opportunities for training in engineering, research and advanced technologies.

The state of Michigan will fund $5 million of the building’s cost, with the balance provided through college funds and private donations. From an ecological standpoint, the building will be rated green, using renewable resources and sustainable construction.
