Local historian to discuss Michigan Hospital School at luncheon on April 9

The Transition Center of Schoolcraft College will host Kim Giammarro, a local historian, Friday, April 9, 2010, for a luncheon and discussion. Giammarro will present “The Children in Our Midst," recounting the history of the Michigan Hospital School that operated in the early part of the 20th century for children convalescing from childhood diseases. The school was noted for its approach to the whole child, providing schooling, camping, swimming, music and much more to many children who would have been forgotten by virtue of their poor health. The presentation will include photography and a fascinating presentation of local history that still carries meaning for our community today.

The luncheon and presentation will be held in the VisTaTech Center on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads, beginning at 11:45 a.m. Tickets are $16 per person and preregistration is required. To register call 734-462-4443. Proceeds from the luncheon series are used to fund Transition Center services and scholarships for students.
