Public is invited to annual Earth Day celebration on April 8
The community is invited to join the Schoolcraft College campus community in our proud tradition of celebrating Earth Day on Monday, April 8,, from noon-3 p.m. in the VisTa Tech Center. To celebrate this year's theme, A Thousand Acts of Green, and encourage conservation the first 250 attendees who pledge to perform at least one "green" act will receive a white pine sapling.

October is National Depression Month. The college's Counseling Department, SC Cares program, and Phi Theta Kappa are sponsoring a Depression Information Session on October 9 and Depression Awareness Screening on October 15.

Summer Piano Camp offers two sessions this summer
Schoolcraft College’s Summer Piano Camp will offer two, two week-sessions this summer, each focusing on a different area of specialty, for local school-age pianists. Free Transition to College workshop series for adults begins Feb. 18
The Transition to College workshop series addresses the concerns and challenges adults face when considering a return to (or starting) college. The series of workshops focuses on relieving some of the anxiety that many adults see as an obstacle between themselves and a college education. The series of workshops is free. Class size is limited.

Michigan New Jobs Training Program Opportunity
The Michigan New Jobs Training Program offers area employers an opportunity to receive training funds for newly created jobs (not replacements or layoff workers) that pay a minimum of $12.95 per hour (17.5 percent of minimum wage). This program is funded through Michigan state income tax diversions.
Motorcycle Safety Program at Schoolcraft Benefits from Additional Grant Funding
May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. In a statewide effort to improve motorcyclist safety, the state of Michigan has increased the funding for The Detroit Metro Regional Motorcycle Safety Program administered by Schoolcraft College’s Continuing Education and Professional Development department. CEPD offers both basic and advanced rider courses taught by professional, certified instructors who have a passion for both riding and riding safety.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Two-Day Class for Healthcare Professionals
Schoolcraft College is offering an Advanced Cardiac Life Support two-day class Fri. - Sat., Apr. 19 -20, from 9 a.m - 5 p.m. Healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of a hospital setting can take advantage of this two-day course and earn 1.2 CEUs (continuing education units).
New class, Introduction to Plastic Materials and Applications, begins May 1
Schoolcraft College has partnered with local businesses to design a new course in plastics technology. This 15-week course provides the plastics professional with an understanding of plastic materials, tooling, processing and testing, emphasizing injection molding. Schoolcraft College is hosting a special traveling exhibit, "Ildlewild: The Black Eden of Michigan," through Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. The exhibit, on loan from Michigan State University, features photographs and historical information about this unique resort community that welcomed African-Americans from the 1920s-60s.
Pageturners presents "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in February
The book, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, is the focus of Pageturners book club's February 2013 selection. Pageturners, Schoolcraft College’s book discussion group, is offering four different opportunities to discuss and experience this Truman Capote classic, including an opportunity to enjoy the movie version on Feb. 14 and book discussions on Feb. 18, 19 and 21.

Two new videos inform students about the course section waitlist feature in WebAdvisor. The waitlist overview video is aimed at students using the waitlist feature for the first time. The waitlist changes video is for students who are experienced with waitlisting but need to be informed of changes to the process effective Winter 2013.

Students will benefit from Reverse Transfer Agreement between Schoolcraft College and University of Michigan-Dearborn
Schoolcraft College and University of Michigan-Dearborn have forged a formal agreement to help students complete a "reverse transfer" associate degree while working on a bachelor's degree. The new reverse transfer agreement creates a process that allows students who transfer from Schoolcraft College to UM-Dearborn to be awarded an associate degree that the student is most qualified for, with the help of credits earned at the university.

Schoolcraft Scholars, an honors program, is designed to provide talented, academically-motivated students with an enhanced educational experience that promotes scholarship and community. The college's production of Romeo and Juliet is a special one, edited by Professor James R. Hartman, for more accessibility and ease of understanding. Piano Academy to host Open House for school-age children on March 18
On Sunday, March 18 from 1-4 p.m. children in grades 1-12 and their parents are invited to attend an Open House to learn more about Schoolcraft’s Piano Academy. The Academy begins in September and runs through the school year with 32 weeks of group and private lessons for students in the first through twelfth grades. The program offers comprehensive instruction in sight-reading, keyboard theory and rhythmic skills along with performance opportunities.

College launches mobile Web site as part of 'Stay Connected' campaign
The latest addition to the college's 'Stay Connected' campaign is SCmobile, a Web site delivering mobile-friendly content to Schoolcraft students. Bookmarking the site puts an icon on the mobile device, enabling the user to quickly access content, including an events calendar, department directory and a list of individual classes that are cancelled for that day. Other aspects of the 'Stay Connected' campagin include student email and a text/email emergency notifcation system.

Schoolcraft College offering free Defense Industry Training as part of consortium
Veterans and unemployed, dislocated and underemployed workers can qualify for free Defense Industry Training at several area colleges, including Schoolcraft College, through a grant from the Department of Labor. Two sessions begin in November, CNC Operator and Business Communications After Being Downsized. More sessions are scheduled to begin in January, 2012.

No-classes-cancelled Guarantee Offered for Winter
In an effort to better serve students, Schoolcraft will not cancel a section of a credit class in Winter 2012 based on the number of students enrolled in that section. The hope is that students will be better able to plan ahead and to achieve their educational goals if they know that certain classes are going to run.

Grammy-nominated trumpeter to perform at concert April 18
A special spring-themed concert Monday, April 18, 2011 will feature world-renowned trumpeter, Wayne Bergeron. The “Up Jumped Spring” concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center. The concert will also feature performances by the college’s Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Improvisation Combo, and Synthesizer Ensemble. Tickets for the concert are $15 for general admission, $10 for students (with identification) and seniors, and $5 for children under 12.

Gingerbread Village on display through December 16
The public is welcome to visit Schoolcraft College to experience an entire village made of gingerbread, candy and the imaginations of culinary arts students. The "Children's Christmas Stories" themed fantasy village will be on display until December 16 in the lobby of the VisTaTech Center.

Culinary Arts program welcomes two experts for upcoming demonstrations
Chef Edward Notter will be on campus Tuesday, November 2 at 3 p.m. and Chef John Folse will be on campus on Thursday, November 18 at 10 a.m. for demonstrations of their unique culinary talents. Both sessions are free and open to the public.

Schoolcraft College’s Summer Piano Camp July 26 - August 6 will give local school-age students the opportunity to focus on the unique traits and techniques of Solo Piano and Piano Duet performances. "Beyond the Motor City" video to be shown June 3
On Thursday, June 3, 2010 Schoolcraft College will host a special viewing of PBS's "Beyond the Motor City" at 1:15 p.m. in the Presentation Room of the VisTaTech Center. The video examines how Detroit, a grim symbol of America's diminishing status in the world, may come to represent the future of transportation and progress in America.
Final concert in college's annual Noon Concert Series is April 21
The final concert in the college's annual free Noon Concert Series will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at noon in the VisTaTech Center. The performance will feature Christopher Scholl, tenor, and Kevin Bylsma, piano.
2010 Art Department Open House is April 6-7
The public is invited to attend a two-day Open House event featuring artwork created by students enrolled in the college's art department courses on Tuesday, April 6, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Wednesday, April 7, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Art will be on display in the Forum on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.

Open House March 16 will feature Kids on Campus summer camp programs

The Innovative Culinary Technology Certificate program is a three-course curriculum with an optional internship. Registration is going on now for Kids on Campus programs that begin July 13. Kids on Campus 2009 will feature a ‘summer camp’ format where each session will consist of an exciting week-long program centered on a particular subject. Sessions are offered for three weeks in July.
