Report to the Community

2006 - 2007 Report

Dear Friends,

James Baldwin wrote “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

These words have particular significance here in Michigan during these unsettling economic times. Michigan has repeatedly studied its condition. Each report seems to produce either despair or unrealistic optimism. Most of these studies have little value because they do not focus on what we can do, and what we are willing to do.

At Schoolcraft, we make no concessions to temporary roadblocks to progress. We see change, we cause change, sometimes just one individual at a time. We know that these individuals will reposition themselves, their families, their neighborhoods and perhaps even broader communities.

On the pages of this report you will meet some of the people who have improved their circumstances because of their experience at Schoolcraft. These are people who faced their situations and aspirations and took action to change. A new job, a new career, new hope for one person, one family, one community—this is the change we facilitate.

We see success everyday and it strengthens our hope for all of Michigan.
