Evaluating Web Sites:
Unique Contribution

The Internet site should give a unique contribution to the material being covered. For example, when the Writing Fellows Program proposed creating a web site, we were rightly asked, "How come Schoolcraft College needs a web site when there is already so much quality material available on-line?"

Our answer was that we needed a web site that met specific needs of the students and faculty at Schoolcraft College and area high schools. Our unique contribution includes

blue bullet used to denote item in a listreferences to books used by the faculty at Schoolcraft College

blue bullet used to denote item in a listreferences and links to Schoolcraft College services and events

blue bullet used to denote item in a listexamples to organizations and resources in Southeast Michigan

blue bullet used to denote item in a listability to work directly with faculty members to make sure that their specific needs are met

In addition, our approach of including "References and Resources" on our worksheets, handouts, web site, is unique. Most other Writing Centers do not include such information on their materials.
