Course Description
This course emphasizes the integration of design principles and software skills to create effective Web sites. Students will focus on advanced design and development features such as Web site Architecture, XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, Tables (for tabular data display), Form and embedding various media types such as Flash and Video. Students will apply software and design skills to realistic Web design projects. Students will explore the World Wide Web: how the Web works, common browsers, assembling Web sites and transferring local files to a remote live web server. Adobe Dreamweaver or other current web authoring/editor software will be used. The student will look at on-line design considerations, such as download times, optimizing file size, file formats, file organization and site usability.

Course Competencies
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Utilize XHTML for developing site structure.
- Utilize Cascading Style Sheets for developing site presentation.
- Embed multi-media elements.
- Design sites using graphic design processes.
- Design sites using graphic design principles.
- Explain how the World Wide Web works, including common browsers.
- Explain the processes of assembling and designing Web Pages and linking documents.
- Identify the client's needs and goals.
- Utilize flow charts, design compositions, matrices, and project descriptions to organize materials.
- Create a Web Site with Web page elements such as graphics, text, multimedia, navigation, forms, and tables.
- Manage a Web Site.
- Publish a Web Site.
- Test the usability of a Web Site.
