New Student Orientation is your next step toward enrollment at Schoolcraft College.
Who should attend?
- All students new to Schoolcraft
- First time college students
- High school students
- Transfer-in students who have completed less than 8 college credits (Transfer-in students with more than 8 college credits are encouraged, but not required, to attend)
Can parents/families attend?
- Yes! We welcome parents and families. You will learn important information about financial aid, student support services and other valuable resources.
Why should I attend?
- Select your first semester classes with an Academic Advisor or Counselor
- Complete the necessary steps to enroll in one visit to campus
- Meet other students
- Learn tips for college success
Note: Students with IEPs are more than welcome to meet with an advisor or counselor during orientation, but they should be aware that they will still need to schedule an appointment to set up their accommodations with an Equal Access Counselor by calling 734-462-4421. At that meeting, if a schedule adjustment needs to be made, arrangements will be made with the Equal Access Counselor.
What do I need to do to prepare prior to orientation?
New Students:
- Submit ACT scores (if you took the ACT within the last 3 years). If you do not believe your scores accurately reflect your ability or you do not have ACT scores, you can take our free Placement Test on campus. We will use these scores for course placement.
- Complete the (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) FAFSA as soon as possible. This is the only way students will be considered for federal and state aid such as Pell grants, work study and/or student loans. It is also a common requirement for scholarships.
Transfer Students:
- If your official transcripts haven’t been received by Schoolcraft College, bring a student copy of your transcripts to orientation (from all previous colleges/universities attended). To verify the receipt of your official transcripts, please contact Admission and Enrollment at 734-462-4426.
- If you have completed less than 8 college credits and/or it’s been 5 years since you attended college please take our free Placement Test prior to Orientation. We will use these scores in combination with your college transcripts for course placement.
- Complete the (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) FAFSA as soon as possible. This is the only way students will be considered for federal and state aid such as Pell grants, work study and/or student loans. It is also a common requirement for scholarships.
What do I need to bring?
- Questions you may have about financial aid, scholarships and classes
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing
