India’s economic explosion has taken the world of business by storm. The world’s most populous democracy, India has shown tremendous strides during the last two decades in economic development, market liberalization, and presence in global markets. Its political significance has grown concurrently, as evidenced by President Bush’s state visit there. Forecasts of India’s sustained long-term growth will, no doubt, translate into the potential for new revenue opportunities for American businesses. India's consumer market has fueled a surge in demand for many products and services in the immediate future, particularly in the areas of safety and security, food processing equipment, IT, energy, pollution control, medical equipment, education, and automobile parts and components. Thus, this is an appropriate time for Michigan businesses to explore market opportunities in India.
To address this urgent need, the Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at Schoolcraft College is preparing a trade mission to India, with support from Wayne State University’s School of Business Administration, the U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The mission’s focus is to assist Michigan firms in their efforts to explore market, marketing, and partnership opportunities with businesses in India.
As currently planned, the trade mission will be administered in two phases: A briefing on India held October 25, 2006, and a business trip to India planned for February 18, 2007.
